Winchester sits on the M3, and almost the whole journey to Heathrow is spent on it: north past Basingstoke and Farnborough to the M25 interchange at Junction 2, then a short run north on the M25 to the airport. At around 60 miles it's one of the more straightforward airport runs from Hampshire — which is exactly why the time of day matters more than the route.
Off-peak and overnight the drive is predictable at a little over an hour. On weekday mornings traffic builds on the M3 towards London and the M25 between Junctions 12 and 14 is one of the busiest stretches of motorway in the country, so we build that into your pickup time rather than leaving you to discover it on the day.
The alternative is the train — via Woking and a coach link, or into London Waterloo and back out across the city — with at least one change and your luggage at every step. For a family, anyone with cases, or an early flight before the first trains, a door-to-door taxi is simpler and usually quicker.
