Fixed-price taxi from Southampton to Heathrow Airport from £135. Door-to-door from any Southampton address, hotel, cruise terminal or the university to Terminal 2, 3, 4 or 5, with no meter and no surge, 24 hours a day.
A taxi from Southampton to Heathrow Airport with Hampshire Taxi costs from £135 for a saloon car, covers about 70 miles and takes 75 to 90 minutes in normal traffic. The Southampton to Heathrow taxi fare is fixed before you book. Heathrow's own terminal drop-off charge of £7 is added to it and passed on to the airport, so you pay £142 in total to Terminal 2, 3, 4 or 5, shown before you pay, with nothing to add at the airport. We run this route 24 hours a day (a 1am pickup for a 6am long-haul departure is a normal night's work for us), and every car is a licensed Southampton private-hire vehicle with a DBS-checked driver.
Tell us your flight number and we confirm the right terminal before travel day. British Airways and Iberia use Terminal 5; other airlines use Terminals 2, 3 and 4, and they do move, so we always check yours. Your driver collects you from your front door, your Southampton hotel, Southampton Central station, the university halls or straight off your ship at the City, Ocean, Mayflower, QEII or Horizon cruise terminal, and drops you at the terminal doors — no shuttle bus, no long-stay car park, no changing trains at Waterloo.

What the 70 miles from Southampton to Heathrow actually look like
Southampton to Heathrow is one of the most straightforward long transfers in the south of England, because almost the entire journey happens on a single motorway. The M3 begins on Southampton's northern edge and runs unbroken to the M25, which means a Southampton to Heathrow taxi spends roughly an hour of its 75 minutes on one road at a steady 70mph. That matters for comfort as much as timing: fewer junctions, fewer roundabouts, and a much smoother ride if you are trying to sleep off a red-eye or work on a laptop between meetings.
The variability on this route is not spread evenly. The first sixty miles are usually predictable to within five minutes at any hour of the day. Most of the risk sits in the final few miles, between the M3's junction with the M25 and the Heathrow perimeter, where the M3, M25 and M4 meet within a few miles of each other. This is why we plan a Southampton to Heathrow airport transfer backwards from your check-in time rather than forwards from your front door, and why the two journeys either side of the morning peak can differ by forty minutes despite covering identical ground.
The other thing worth knowing is that Heathrow is not one destination but four, spread across a site nearly three miles wide with separate access roads. A Southampton to Heathrow taxi that drops at the wrong terminal has not saved you anything — you will spend twenty minutes on the free inter-terminal transit with your luggage. We confirm your terminal from your flight number at the point of booking, not on the day, precisely so this never becomes your problem.
The exact route your driver takes to Heathrow
This is the standard routing for a Southampton to Heathrow transfer in normal conditions. Your driver will vary the last section depending on live traffic and which terminal you are flying from.
Southampton to the M3 — the first ten minutes From a city-centre, dock or hotel pickup we join the M3 either directly via the A33 north or by running east on the M27 and joining at Junction 4. Pickups from the Western Docks terminals (City, Mayflower and Horizon) usually take the M271 and M27 to avoid the city centre. This section is the most variable part of the local leg, particularly around the Chilworth and Bassett junctions at school-run times.
M3 north through Hampshire — Winchester to Basingstoke The long stretch of the journey. The M3 climbs past Winchester and Basingstoke, and the notable pinch point is Junction 9 at Winchester, where the M3 meets the A34. Delays here are common between 07:00 and 09:00 on weekdays and can add fifteen minutes. Off-peak, this whole stretch runs at national speed limit and is genuinely quick.
Where the M3 meets the M25: the decision point The M3 meets the M25 at the M25's Junction 12, near Thorpe. This is where your driver commits to one of two approaches, and the choice depends entirely on your terminal. It is also the busiest few miles of the journey — the M25 between Junctions 12 and 14 carries some of the heaviest traffic in Britain, and it is the single most likely place for the journey to lose time.
M25 north to your terminal For Terminal 5 and Terminal 4 we leave the M25 at Junction 14, which feeds the airport's western and southern access roads directly. For Terminals 2 and 3 we continue to Junction 15 and take the M4 eastbound to the Heathrow spur, which arrives into the Central Terminal Area. In heavy M25 traffic your driver may instead come off earlier and approach along the A30 through Staines — slower on paper, but frequently faster in practice when the M25 is queueing.
Terminal forecourt and drop-off Heathrow's terminal forecourts operate a charged drop-off zone, with a free alternative in the long-stay car parks connected by shuttle bus. We take you to the forecourt as standard for a departure so you and your luggage arrive at the doors, and the access charge is passed through at cost on your quote rather than marked up.
Which Heathrow terminal do you actually need?
Getting this right before travel day is the single most useful piece of preparation for a Heathrow departure. Terminal 4 and Terminal 5 sit apart from the central area and have their own access roads, so a wrong drop-off is a genuine delay rather than a short walk.
Terminal 2 — The Queen's Terminal Home to most Star Alliance carriers, plus a number of European and long-haul partners. It sits in the Central Terminal Area alongside Terminal 3, reached from the M4 spur. If your booking says Terminal 1, that terminal closed in 2015 and your flight has almost certainly moved to Terminal 2 — worth checking before travel day.
Terminal 3 The other central-area terminal, used by a mix of long-haul transatlantic, Middle Eastern and Asia-Pacific carriers. It shares the same access road and drop-off structure as Terminal 2 and the two are within walking distance of each other via the central bus station, so a mistake between these two is recoverable on foot.
Terminal 4 Physically separate on the southern side of the airfield, with its own spur off the Southern Perimeter Road. Used largely by SkyTeam and several Gulf carriers. There is no walking route from the central terminals — if you are dropped in the wrong place you need the free inter-terminal train or bus, which realistically costs you 20–30 minutes with bags.
Terminal 5 The dedicated British Airways and Iberia terminal on the airport's western edge, closest to the M25 and the first terminal our route reaches. Because it is the nearest to the motorway, a Terminal 5 departure is typically the fastest Southampton to Heathrow run of the four, and the least exposed to airport perimeter traffic.
Meeting you on arrival For inbound journeys your driver waits inside the arrivals hall with a name board, positioned at the exit from customs, and we monitor the live landing time. Heathrow immigration and baggage reclaim can take well over an hour at peak times on a long-haul arrival, so we allow a full 60 minutes of free waiting after touchdown as standard.
Heathrow hotel transfers If you are staying near Heathrow the night before a flight, or overnighting near the airport before a cruise, we drop and collect at the airport hotels along the Bath Road, at Hatton Cross and around Terminal 5. Enter the hotel as your address and the quote shows the price before you book.

Heathrow to Southampton cruise port, and back again
A large share of our Southampton to Heathrow work is not people flying out of Southampton at all — it is cruise passengers. Southampton is the UK's busiest cruise port, and Heathrow is where most international guests land before boarding. That makes the Heathrow–Southampton corridor one of the most heavily travelled cruise transfer routes in Britain, and it comes with timing demands a normal airport run does not have.
The difference is that a cruise has a hard deadline. A missed flight can be rebooked; a missed sailing cannot. For an inbound Heathrow pickup on embarkation day we work to your ship's all-aboard time rather than your terminal check-in window, and we build in a larger buffer than we would for a flight — because the M25 does not care about your itinerary.
We also track your flight and your ship together on these journeys. If your inbound long-haul lands two hours late, the question is no longer whether we wait, it is whether the revised arrival still clears your boarding window and whether a different terminal gate makes more sense. Those are decisions we make before you have landed, not while you are standing in arrivals wondering where your driver is.
On the return leg, cruise disembarkation is staggered by deck and colour-coded luggage group, so passengers leave the ship across a two to three hour spread. We collect on your actual disembarkation time rather than the ship's arrival time, which is the single most common mistake in booking a post-cruise Heathrow transfer.
The local detail most operators miss
If your pickup falls in the weekday morning rush, roughly 07:00 to 09:00 (usually for a flight around midday), the slow parts of the journey are the M3 at Junction 9 near Winchester, where it meets the A34, and the M25 between Junctions 12 and 14. Those queues do not show up on a route planner set to average speeds.
Our answer is simple, and it is why the departure planner above looks cautious: at rush hour we add time for those two spots rather than hoping to drive straight through. It means a slightly earlier pickup, and it removes the most unpredictable part of the route.

Going to a Heathrow hotel, not straight to the terminal
Many of our Southampton to Heathrow passengers are not flying the same day. Cruise passengers often leave the ship in the morning, spend the night at a Heathrow hotel and fly home the next day; others have a departure so early that sleeping at the airport is easier than a 3am start from Hampshire. For both, the journey ends at a hotel reception, and the price depends on which hotel it is.
Hotels outside the airport, including the long row of them on the Bath Road along the northern edge, carry no airport charge, so the fare is from £135. A few hotels stand inside the airport itself, beside Terminal 4 and beside Terminals 2 and 3, and charge vehicles £7.20 to drive up to the door. That fee is listed on your quote, which makes those hotels £142. In return you are a few minutes' walk from the terminal the next morning.
Enter the hotel's name as your destination on the booking form and the right price appears with its charges listed. If you want us to collect you from the hotel and take you to the terminal in the morning, that is a separate short journey you can book at the same time.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a taxi from Southampton to Heathrow Airport?
Our fixed fare for a taxi from Southampton to Heathrow Airport is from £135 for a saloon car. Heathrow's own £7 terminal drop-off charge is added and passed on to the airport, so you pay £142 in total to Terminal 2, 3, 4 or 5. Executive cars, MPVs and 8-seater minibuses are priced in the table above. The fare never changes with traffic, but overnight trips (10pm–6am) carry a 15% night rate and bank holiday travel carries a 10% surcharge — both applied automatically and shown in your quote before you confirm.
How far is Southampton from Heathrow Airport and how long does the taxi take?
Southampton to Heathrow is about 70 miles by road via the M3 and M25. A Southampton to Heathrow taxi normally takes 75 to 90 minutes; overnight it can be under 70 minutes, and on a weekday morning peak allow up to two hours.
What time should I book my taxi to Heathrow for an early flight?
For a 06:00 long-haul departure we recommend a 01:00 pickup, and for 08:00 a 03:00 pickup. Tell us your flight time when booking and we work the pickup back from your check-in time — the full departure planner is on this page.
Do you know which Heathrow terminal my flight leaves from?
Yes. Give us your flight number and we confirm the terminal before travel day. British Airways and Iberia use Terminal 5; other airlines use Terminals 2, 3 and 4, and they do move, so we always check yours.
Is the Heathrow drop-off charge included in the price?
It is added to your fare and shown before you pay. Heathrow charges every vehicle £7 to use the terminal forecourt, and that money goes to the airport, not to us. Our fare is from £135, so with the charge you pay £142, and the price you see when you book is the price you pay at the door of your terminal.
Do you have an 8 seater taxi from Southampton to Heathrow?
Yes. Our 8-seater minibus carries up to 8 passengers with large luggage in one vehicle, and our MPV up to 6 — ideal for families, groups and cruise passengers flying home from Heathrow.
Is a taxi cheaper than the train from Southampton to Heathrow?
For a family or group with luggage, usually yes. There is no direct train: you change at Waterloo for the tube, Elizabeth line or Heathrow Express, or at Woking for the RailAir coach, and the trip takes 2 to 2½ hours door to door. For three or four people, peak rail fares often add up to more than a fixed-fare taxi that takes about 75 minutes and drops you at the terminal.
Can you collect me from a Southampton cruise terminal and take me to Heathrow?
Yes — it is one of our most-booked journeys after a P&O, Cunard, Royal Caribbean or MSC cruise. We collect dockside at the City, Ocean, Mayflower, QEII or Horizon terminal on your actual disembarkation time and deliver you to the correct Heathrow terminal with time to check in.
Can I pay by card, and can I add the return from Heathrow?
Yes. Pay by card online when you book, or pay the driver in cash. Add the Heathrow to Southampton return leg in the same booking; it includes free flight tracking and meet & greet in arrivals.
Which route does a Southampton to Heathrow taxi take?
The M3 for almost the entire journey. We join the M3 on Southampton's northern edge, run north past Winchester and Basingstoke to where it meets the M25 at Junction 12, then north on the M25 — leaving at Junction 14 for Terminals 4 and 5, or Junction 15 and the M4 spur for Terminals 2 and 3. In heavy M25 traffic your driver may approach via the A30 through Staines instead.
Is Terminal 5 quicker to reach than Terminal 2 or 3?
Yes, usually by 10 to 15 minutes. Terminal 5 sits on Heathrow's western edge closest to the M25, so it is the first terminal our route reaches and avoids the Central Terminal Area access road entirely. Terminals 2 and 3 require continuing to the M4 spur and entering the middle of the airport site.
What happens if I am dropped at the wrong Heathrow terminal?
It should never happen — we confirm your terminal from your flight number when you book. But it matters because Terminals 4 and 5 are physically separate from the central area with their own access roads, so correcting a mistake means taking the free inter-terminal transit with your luggage, realistically 20 to 30 minutes. Tell us your flight number and this is a non-issue.
When should I leave Southampton for an early-morning Heathrow flight?
For a 06:00 long-haul departure we recommend a 01:00 pickup, and for 08:00 a 03:00 pickup. Overnight the motorways are clear and the drive can run under 70 minutes. The awkward departures are mid-morning ones, where we add around 15 minutes for rush-hour traffic on the M3 near Winchester and on the M25.
Do you handle Heathrow arrivals for a Southampton cruise on the same day?
Yes, and it is one of our most common bookings. On embarkation day we work backwards from your ship's all-aboard time rather than a check-in window, and we track your flight and your sailing together — so a delayed long-haul is assessed against your boarding deadline before you have even landed.
How long will you wait if my flight into Heathrow is delayed?
We track the live landing time rather than the scheduled one, so a delayed flight costs you nothing extra. On top of that you get 60 minutes of free waiting after touchdown, which reflects how long Heathrow immigration and baggage reclaim can take on a busy long-haul arrival.
How much is a taxi from Southampton to a Heathrow hotel?
From £135 for an Economy saloon with up to 4 passengers to a hotel outside the airport, such as those on the Bath Road, because no airport charge applies. Hotels inside the airport at Terminal 4 and at Terminals 2 and 3 charge a £7.20 entrance fee, which makes them £142.
Is it cheaper if I tell you which Heathrow terminal I need?
Yes, by £3. Before a terminal is chosen the price is £145. Choose Terminal 2, 3, 4 or 5 on the booking form and it becomes £142: the £135 fare plus Heathrow's £7 terminal drop-off charge. You can change the terminal later if your airline moves the flight.
Can you take me from the cruise ship to a Heathrow hotel instead of the airport?
Yes. We collect you at your Southampton cruise terminal, with 30 minutes of free waiting from your disembarkation time, and drive you to the hotel's door. Enter the hotel as the destination when you book and the price is shown with any airport or hotel charge listed.
