Stansted Airport to Southampton taxi with meet & greet — fixed fare from £247, door-to-door, 24/7. About 125 miles, around 155 minutes' drive.

Direct, fixed-fare taxi from Stansted Airport to Southampton. We meet you at Stansted arrivals, monitor your flight and deliver you door-to-door anywhere in Southampton — city, cruise terminal, hotel or home. No meter, no surge.

A Stansted to Southampton taxi covers around 125 miles and takes about 2½ hours in normal traffic. Because it's a long-distance transfer, a fixed fare matters even more — we quote one price before you book and hold to it regardless of traffic or route, so the fare you see is the fare you pay.

Your driver meets you inside Stansted arrivals with a name board, helps with your luggage and tracks your flight — so early landings or delays are handled automatically with no waiting charge. Choose from saloon, estate and executive cars, MPVs and 8-seater minibuses for families and groups, with the first child seat free on request.

Stansted is in Essex, north-east of London, so this is the longest of the London airport runs: the M11 south to the M25, round the north and west of London, then the M3 to Southampton. The airport has one terminal, and the driver meets you in its arrivals hall.

From Stansted to Southampton in one vehicle

Stansted is on the Essex side of London, so a journey to Southampton crosses almost the whole of the south of England — about 125 miles and two and a half hours by road, down the M11, round the M25 and down the M3. By rail it means the Stansted Express into Liverpool Street, the Underground across London to Waterloo and a train to Southampton: usually three hours or more with luggage.

Many of our Stansted passengers are visitors landing from Europe on a Ryanair flight, and cruise passengers who found a cheaper fare into Stansted than into Heathrow. For both, a car from arrivals removes three changes of transport and a trip across London.

Can you land at Stansted and board your ship?

A guide for passengers flying in on embarkation day. It assumes about 45 minutes from landing to the car, a drive of about 2 hours 15 minutes, and that you want to reach the terminal within your check-in slot.

Flight landsLeaving Stansted aroundAt the cruise terminal aroundOur advice
07:0007:4510:00Comfortable for most afternoon sailings
09:0009:4512:00Workable if your check-in slot is after midday
11:0011:4514:00Tight — only if your check-in window is late and the ship sails in the evening

If your flight would leave less time than this, think about arriving the day before. A missed flight can be rebooked; a missed ship cannot.

From the aircraft door at Stansted to your door in Southampton

  1. You send the flight number We follow the flight itself, so the driver is timed to the real landing and not the scheduled one. The first 60 minutes after the aircraft lands are free, which covers the border and the baggage belt.
  2. One terminal, one arrivals hall Stansted has a single terminal. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with your name on a board and takes the luggage trolley from there.
  3. Nothing to pay at the car park The airport charges for collecting passengers. That charge is already in the fixed fare, so there is no barrier ticket or parking fee for you to settle.
  4. M11, M25 and M3 The route runs down the M11, round the M25 and down the M3 to Southampton: about 125 miles, normally two and a quarter to two and a half hours, in one vehicle with no changes.

National Express coachAround 5 hoursSometimes oneA few coaches a day; the cheapest way and the slowest, and it ends at the coach station, not at your hotel or ship

Per person the coach is cheapest. For two or more people with cases, the car is often close to the rail fare and saves about half an hour and every change.

Stansted Airport to the Southampton cruise terminals

The fare from Stansted is the same to all five Southampton cruise terminals as it is to a hotel or home in the city. City, Horizon and Mayflower are in the Western Docks, reached through Dock Gates 8, 10 and 20 respectively; Ocean and QEII are in the Eastern Docks, through Dock Gate 4. Tell us the ship and the sailing date and we check which terminal it is using, because the same ship can berth at a different one on another voyage.

Stansted is the furthest of the London airports from Southampton, so the margin matters more here than on any other route we run. The table higher up this page shows which landing times work for a same-day sailing. If your flight is later than those, the safer plan is to fly the day before, sleep in Southampton and take a short ride to the ship in the morning.

Flying into Stansted from Europe: the ETA and the passport gates

Most flights into Stansted come from European cities, and visitors from Europe now usually need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling to the UK. It costs £20, it is applied for online, and every traveller needs one, including babies and children. Holders of a British or Irish passport do not need it.

At the border, travellers from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein can use the automatic eGates if their passport has the biometric symbol on the cover. Children can use them from age 8 if they are at least 120cm tall and with an adult.

Arrange the ETA well before the flight, not at the airport. On the day, the slow part is usually the baggage belt, which is why we time the car to when you are likely to walk out of arrivals and not to the minute the aircraft lands.
